Collective Conscious - Unified Planes - Works on paper

Collective C are a group of five artists who have come together through their shared use of an online gallery.  Although geographically they are as far afield as England, Scotland, Wales and America they have identified similarities in their approach to their work which has prompted them to form a collective. The group communicates on a regular basis in order to share ideas, identify common practice and to offer support and critique.

It is within the core structure of pictorial geometry and the improvisation of mark making where the manipulation of the 'Formal Elements' (line, tone, colour and shape) takes place.  It is this which underpins the groups output.  These elements  are woven into cohesive, yet idiosyncratic and personalised abstract expressions. Whilst each individual is concerned with the development of their own visual vocabulary, their outcomes resonate with a common philosophy which often binds them together as one unit.  "It has been said that art does not have to be about, or the imitation of, any 'thing' but should reflect the process of its own creation, this is a mantra that we share.  Art that is made without any filters, limits, constructs, direct experience fulfilled through making with marks".

A collection of works on paper has been curated to illustrate the foundation of their common practice and to address questions raised regarding the boundaries between drawing and painting.  

Is there a 'fine line' that separates drawing from painting? 

Is this a distinction that still exists today in the art world?
